information about Computerized National Identity Card

Computerized National Identity Card
Before accessing formal or semi-formal financial services there are some documents that will be demanded as proof of identity. The most important is the Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC).
The CNIC is a very important card which can be issued to all Pakistani citizens who are aged 18 and above. The CNIC marks adult men and women as citizens of the country and is mandatory for electoral registration as well as access to formal services such as passports, travel documents, licenses, bank accounts etc. It is used to verify your identity, your residence and (if applicable) your employment – to see that you really are the person you claim you are.
How to get a CNIC
The CNIC is issued by National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) and every Pakistani citizen who is 18 years of age or older should have one.
You can get a CNIC made at Nadra Centers (sometimes Nadra Swift Registration Centers or NSRCs) which provide the following CNIC-related services:
  • Issuance of new CNIC
  • Modification or Correction of CNIC
  • Duplicate of CNIC
  • Cancellation of CNIC (in case of death)
 The Process
Step by Step Procedure at NADRA Center:

  1. You will receive a token when you walk in, and pay for the service you require. This token ensures that you get called when it is your turn
  2. When you get called, it will be to have your photo taken by the photographer there
  3. Soon you will be called to get your thumb print and signatures
  4. A NADRA representative will then call your name to get your data, such as your address, your birth date, marital status etc
  5. The forms will be printed, attested and submitted
  6. You will be issued a receipt which will be stamped. This serves as a receipt for payment and when you come back to the NADRA center you can use this receipt to pick up your card
A CNIC applicant is required to produce the following documents at the time of application:
